Swedish Background

Officially called the Kingdom of Sweden, with Stockholm as the capital, this constitutional monarchy located on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe is the third largest country in European Union area-wise. Sometimes called the most atheist country in Europe, up to 85 percent people of the 9.5 million population do not believe in God. Despite being covered in snow most of the time, Sweden is a highly advanced country, represented by such titans as Anders Celsius and Alfred Nobel in science, Astrid Lindgren and Stieg Larsson in literature, Ingmar Bergman and Greta Garbo in film industry, Abba and The Cardigans in music, and Volvo and Ericsson in business. As a part of the North Germanic language family, Swedish gives parents all over the world the chance to choose a child’s name of Old Norse origin, rooted in Norse mythology and the history of Vikings, with profound etymology and branched genealogy.
